A domain name is important for owning your own website because without one then your website cannot go online for people to view.

domain names cost different amounts of money on different websites.
e.g. a domain name can cost up to £50 for 5 years with the extension '.com'.
Or you could pay for 10 years which costs around £80 with the '.com' extension.
Types of domain name extensions.
There are many domain name extensions for different country's e.g. United Kingdom would be '.co.uk' and America would be '.com'.
